For the love of money is the root of all evil… 1 Timothy 6:10
Let this sink in. See evil in this world? You can trace it back to money.
If you don’t believe this, then you’re probably confusing sin with evil. They are cousins, yes, but they are not the same.
Sin is simply “to miss the mark”. It’s to not do what you are supposed to do. We can think of this as not necessarily being bad, but simply not being good. This is why when the Bible says: “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and “There is none good but one, that is, God”; it applies to everyone.
Sin is simply when we cause our own suffering or the suffering of others by failing to live in God’s will for our lives.
Evil on the other hand is another story.
Evil is the manifestation of profound immorality and wickedness, especially in people’s actions.
We know there is so much political, civil, and moral evils going on in the world around us that it’s daunting to think about. It gets even more daunting, yet simple, when we understand that the love of money is the whole reason behind it all.
You wonder why the federal government is so corrupt? They LOVE money.
You wonder why an upstanding individual commits fraud? They LOVE money.
You wonder why thieves break into every car on the block? They LOVE money!
Now let’s rotate this into my world.
You wonder why hackers steal your data and then sell it? They LOVE money!
It really is this simple.
Hackers also don’t want to attract too much attention on themselves. They can sell the data, delete all the evidence, and stay in the shadows while someone else takes on the risks associated with fraud.
But that is a subject for another day.
Have a blessed day!
